Four days ago, I committed to doing the 50 Kettlebell Swings a Day Challenge with Team Renov8 to support the American Cancer Society!
Ironic as it is, only a couple of hours later, my doctor called with my long overdue MRI results. He wants me to stop all movement, stop walking, stop physical therapy, and start wearing my boot again.
As it turns out, my MRI shows:
- Small bone fragment floating around in the front of my ankle
- Small fracture in the lower front of my tibia bone
- Swelling in the bone marrow of my tibia
- Sprain of my talofibular ligament
- Sprain of the deep fibers of my deltoid ligament
- Fluid in my tibiotalar joint
I’m not going to lie…I was quite upset with the news and challenged my doctor on the phone. He already had given me the green light weeks ago to start moving and doing exercises that did not cause pain…and my ankle was getting better and had less pain due to my physical therapy.
After that call I was slightly depressed, sad, and frustrated. I don’t want to lose even more muscle mass, gain more body fat, go back to my stiff and immobile ankle, and did not want to stop exercising when I had just recently started again.
I put on my ankle brace (a happy medium for me) and went to a new wine & espresso bar with my husband. We played trivia while drinking wine (me) and lattes (Steven), and I slowly realized that I was starting to come to terms with the results and the decision I had to make.
I don’t necessarily 100% agree with wearing the boot again and going back to being immobile in my ankle joint, but I also don’t want to risk the chance of taking longer to heal.
It’s already been 7 weeks since my injury and fractures usually take 6-10 weeks to heal; deep sprains take up to 12 weeks to heal.
So, I put my boot back on and am adjusting myself mentally as I become okay with at least another 4 weeks of wearing the boot. I have my follow-up appointment with an ankle specialist on July 28th.
But let’s get back to the 50 Kettlebell Swings a Day Challenge with Team Renov8 to support the American Cancer Society!
Obviously, I can no longer do Kettlebell swings, but I am not dropping out of the challenge! So, this is where you come in (:
I am going to replace the Kettlebell swings with a different exercise that will not put pressure on my legs. Yes, I know many exercises that I can do, but that’s not fun…I want you to choose an exercise for me to do 50 reps of each day in July as I continue to raise funds to help free the world of cancer!
Comment below and let me know what exercise you think I should do. Out of everyone who shares an exercise with me, I’ll choose one in the next day or so and commit to doing 50 of them each day for the rest of July.
And, if you have no idea what exercise I should do, you can still support me and a world free of cancer by doing one of two things:
- Join Team Renov8 in this Challenge and do 50 Kettlebell swings each day in July at shorturl.at/qJ268
- Donate on my fundraising page at https://www.facebook.com/donate/3228034207444573/
Play an active role with me today in helping to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the way for a world without cancer. Let’s go!
